Hi there, I’m Jennifer

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light.”  While you may not see hope or a light at the end of your tunnel, I do. I will hold onto your hope and help you turn on your light.

Licensed since 2011, I earned my Master's Degree in Community Counseling from Argosy University in Schaumburg, IL.  Upon graduating, Argosy accepted me into the Counselor Education and Supervision Doctoral Program, followed up in 2019 with my Ph.D. Training in Counselor Education and Supervision at Adler University, Chicago., IL. While I finish my dissertation at Adler University, I am an adjunct instructor for master-level students in their Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, who hope to obtain their own clinical counseling license once complete.

I work with children (2-12), adolescents (13-18), young adults (19-24), adults, families, and couples, and have run many teen support groups, personal growth groups, and assertiveness training groups. I use a variety of methods to suit each client or couple with a motto of “super easy, super cheesy.” “The smaller, sillier, and more creative the idea, the easier”. It’s my philosophy that the use of humor can ease anxiety and tension towards certain activities and have the added benefit of helping clients internalize discussions/sessions from the session.

I also completed two internships as a Legal Advocate and a children’s Counselor at two different women’s domestic abuse shelters while pursuing my undergraduate and graduate degrees. There, I was tasked with providing the shelter staff, interns, and volunteers with child and adolescent trauma training. I come from a practice in Wisconsin where I facilitated family therapy and couples (no apostrophe here) therapy with the goal of working on communication and problem solving while supporting each individual member in a safe and fair environment.

I help others to be their best self with confidence and security in a supportive and empowering space. After all, you are trusting me with your innermost thoughts, where together you can create awareness to move forward.

I am a lover of adventure, anything from motorcycles, ropes courses, paddle boarding, hiking, and horseback riding. When not adventuring, I like to read both professionally and recreationally, go out to movies, and enjoy tv shows with my significant other and my two cats and three dogs.

THE LIVING PONO APPROACH

in life, Pono stands for righteousness and balance

In Hawaiian, if a person is living Pono, it means that they have struck the right balance within themselves, with other things, places, and the people in their lives.

We take that same approach when helping you to grow.
